Cycling Tour of Imatra’s Architecture and Sights

Pyöräilyreitti Imatralla, Vuoksella

The architecture tour introduces cyclists to Imatra’s nationally significant built cultural environment and notable individual architectural sites.

The city of Imatra offers many fascinating locations for those interested in architecture and building history. The most famous is the State Hotel (Valtionhotelli), a national romantic-style building that has repeatedly been voted the most beautiful in Finland. Internationally, the best-known architectural landmark in Imatra is the Church of the Three Crosses, designed by Alvar Aalto.

Imatra’s manor houses also offer historical interest—built by notable Finnish figures as well as members of the Russian nobility. The city’s industrial history is reflected not only in production buildings such as power plants, but also in the cohesive residential areas once built for industrial workers, which can be found in various parts of the city. More modern architecture is represented by public buildings such as the City Hall and the Virta Cultural Centre, located on the banks of the Vuoksi River. You'll discover many other interesting sites along this route, which winds through different parts of the city.

Surface type: asphalt and gravel road.
